The hard part is knowing which ones actually take weddings, how many guests they hold, and whether you can marry legally there or only hold a symbolic ceremony. This guide answers those questions using the venues’ own websites and official registry pages.

Before you choose: three questions

1. Legal or symbolic ceremony?

A legal civil wedding is conducted by a registry official, in Czech with an interpreter, at the registry’s ceremony rooms or an approved place. A symbolic ceremony has no legal effect, but you can hold it in almost any venue that allows events, in any language. Many international couples marry legally at home and hold a symbolic ceremony in Prague. Read our legal wedding guide for foreigners before you book.

2. Ceremony only, or the whole day?

Some of Prague’s most photogenic places, such as gardens and monuments, are rented for the ceremony by the hour. Dinner and the party then happen at a restaurant, hotel or boat. Other venues can host everything in one place. One venue for the whole day is simpler for guests; a ceremony in a garden followed by dinner elsewhere often gives better photos.

3. How many guests, and in which season?

Historic gardens and chapels are often small. Most outdoor venues are seasonal, roughly from spring to early autumn, and need a rain plan. If you have more than about 60 guests, a palace, hotel or chateau is usually the realistic choice.

Prague wedding venues at a glance

Venue

Area

Ceremony

Capacity (published)

Published price

Old Town Hall

Old Town

Civil

not published

Hall free; registry fee applies

New Town Hall

New Town (Prague 2)

Civil

not published

Free on set days; CZK 3,000 on Saturdays

Vrtba Bahçesi

Malá Strana

Civil, church

10 chairs, other guests stand

on request

Palace Gardens below Prague Castle

Malá Strana

Civil, church

15–60 per garden; seating for 256 on the Ledebour terrace

from CZK 14,500 / 1 h incl. Weddings are run by the Prague 1 registry office. The ceremony hall is free for all couples. You pay only the registry’s administrative fee (CZK 5,000 if neither of you has Czech permanent residence) and an extra CZK 3,000 if you want a time outside the set wedding days and hours. Dates are booked by phone or in person with the Prague 1 registry, not online.

New Town Hall (Novoměstská radnice), Prague 2

A Gothic town hall on Charles Square, run by the Prague 2 registry. Ceremonies take place in the first-floor hall of the east wing, and a live organ is possible. The hall is free on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month and every Friday (in May, Fridays only). On the 1st or 3rd Saturday, or outside the set times, it costs CZK 3,000. Six parking spaces are provided per wedding.

Gardens and monuments: ceremony by the hour

Vrtba Garden (Vrtbovská zahrada)

A small Baroque terrace garden in Malá Strana with one of the best views over the city. Civil and church weddings are possible, with civil ceremonies through the Prague 1 registry. It is intimate: there are 10 chairs for family in the Sala Terrena, and other guests stand. The garden is open from April to October and stays open to visitors during your ceremony. Ceremonies are scheduled about every two hours. Rice and confetti are not allowed, and catering must come from a contracted caterer. Price on request. Civil and church ceremonies are possible. The gardens publish the clearest price list in Prague: from CZK 14,500 for 1 hour or CZK 24,000 for 2 hours (option A), or CZK 19,000 / 29,000 for the Ledebour garden with the sala terrena (option B), all including VAT, plus CZK 7,500 per extra hour. Twenty chairs are included. Capacity depends on the garden: from 15 at the gloriette to 60 at the Pálffy parterre, with seating sockets for 256 on the Ledebour parterre. Two rules to know: if you are more than 25 minutes late, the ceremony is cancelled, and photography outside the area you rented costs CZK 1,500.

Vyšehrad

The historic fortress above the Vltava, with parks, casemates (including the Gorlice hall) and city views. Civil, church and symbolic ceremonies and registered partnerships are possible, with civil ceremonies through the Prague 2 registry. The price list valid from 1 April 2026 offers three packages: CZK 8,000 for 2 hours (about 20 guests), CZK 25,000 for 4 hours (about 50) and CZK 70,000 for 6 hours (about 100). The official PDF lists these excluding VAT. Ceremonies take place in the parks, with the Purkrabství hall as a rain or reception option. The parks cannot be closed to the public. Ceremonies in the Basilica of St Peter and St Paul are arranged separately with the Vyšehrad Chapter. See our Vyšehrad elopement guide.

Prague Botanical Garden, Troja

A good choice for nature lovers, with several ceremony spots: the terrace below St Clare’s chapel (about 100 guests), the Japanese Garden (about 40), the chapel itself (about 25), the Fata Morgana greenhouse waterfall (about 20, usable all year) and the Misty Forests (about 15). The fee is CZK 17,000–20,000 per spot, and a speaker costs CZK 500. Civil weddings are through the Prague 7 registry, on Fridays from 11:00 to 13:00 (Tuesdays and Thursdays by arrangement). The Peony Meadow is closed for weddings until 2027.

Troja Chateau (Trojský zámek)

A Baroque chateau run by the Prague City Gallery. Civil ceremonies take place indoors, in the painted Imperial Hall (up to 200 guests), on Fridays at 10:30 and 12:00. The fee is CZK 20,000 excluding VAT, and you arrange the registry official yourselves (for example through the Prague 7 registry). The hall and gardens are closed to visitors during the ceremony and photos. Contact: svatby@ghmp.cz. You can exchange vows and hold the reception in its historic halls, for up to 180 guests. Catering is exclusively by the palace’s own caterer. Price on request. See Lobkowicz Palace weddings.

Villa Richter and St. Wenceslas Vineyard

A villa restaurant in one of the oldest vineyards in Bohemia, just below the Castle walls. Civil and church ceremonies can take place in the vineyard, with a glasshouse as a rain backup, followed by a reception for up to about 110–120 guests. A vineyard ceremony is only possible if you also book their catering. Good to know: outdoor music must end at 22:00 because of the Castle’s protected zone, there is no parking, and the venue is not wheelchair accessible (a golf cart can help on request). The venue recommends booking 12–18 months ahead for April–October. The Great Hall seats up to 800 for a banquet, the Small Hall 192 and the Knights’ Hall 110. Before you sign, confirm in writing who will operate the venue on your date.

Chateau St. Havel, Prague 4

A neo-Gothic chateau hotel in Krč, inside the city limits, with a chapel and park. Civil and church ceremonies are possible in the chapel or the park. One of the few venues with a published package: CZK 59,000 including VAT for exclusive use of the hall, chapel, terraces and park from 09:00 to midnight, plus a tent for up to 400 guests. Published prices: a wedding menu at CZK 2,299 per person and exclusive use from a minimum spend of CZK 180,000. Live music or a DJ must end at 22:00. Some operators say that a civil ceremony on board is possible by prior arrangement. The registry office for the mooring location must approve it, and the operator usually arranges this.

Prague Boats: a fleet of 17 boats, from small boats for 9–24 people up to the Grand Bohemia for 550. Its visitor rules allow photography only for private, non-commercial use, without setting up equipment or blocking paths. Plan your ceremony and photo session elsewhere, for example in the Palace Gardens or Vrtba Garden nearby.

Frequently asked questions

Can we have a legal wedding outside a town hall?

Yes. Czech law allows a civil ceremony at “another suitable place” with the registry’s approval, for an extra fee (CZK 3,000 at Prague 1). Gardens such as Vrtba, the Palace Gardens, Vyšehrad and the Botanical Garden, as well as Troja Chateau, Villa Richter and some boats, regularly host civil ceremonies.

Which Prague venues are best for a small wedding or elopement?

Vrtba Garden, the Palace Gardens’ smaller terraces, Vyšehrad’s basic package (about 20 guests) and the Botanical Garden’s chapel or waterfall spots. For dinner, see intimate restaurants for micro weddings.

Which venues work for 100 guests or more?

Troja Chateau (up to 200 for the ceremony), Lobkowicz Palace and the Augustine (up to 180), Žofín Palace, Chateau St. Havel with its tent, and the larger Vltava boats.

Do venues close to the public for our ceremony?

Not always. Vrtba Garden and the Vyšehrad parks stay open to visitors. Troja Chateau closes its hall and garden during the ceremony and photos. Ask every venue directly.

How far ahead should we book?

For popular venues and summer weekends, 12–18 months is common (Villa Richter recommends this). Town halls and gardens with weekday slots can be easier to get.

Sources

Prague 1 registry: marriage

Prague 2 New Town Hall: weddings

Vrtba Garden: weddings

Palace Gardens below Prague Castle: price list

Vyšehrad: events and weddings

Prague Botanical Garden: wedding ceremonies

Prague City Gallery: weddings at Troja Chateau

Lobkowicz Palace: weddings

Villa Richter: weddings

Augustine Hotel: weddings

Žofín Palace: weddings

Chateau St. Havel: weddings

Terasa U Prince: private events

Dancing House: restaurant events

Prague Boats: weddings, Vltava River Cruises: wedding on a boat, Najade: price list

Chateau Mcely: weddings

Czech Senate: Wallenstein Garden visitor information

Venue rules, capacities and prices change.
